McMahon Dairy

From an early age, Alonzo McMahon, son of Pamelia Read and Edward McMahon, helped his father in the towing business and worked on the farm. Alonzo's sons started dlivering milk with a wagon pulled by their goat. As business grew, pasteurizing and bottking equipment were purchased and a horse-drawn wagon was added. The dairy was mainly the responsibility of two sons, Charlie and John. The dairy continued in business after Charlie's death, until John retired in 1972.

Wilf Murphy retires February 6, 1950

Even though a great deal of the shipping commerce left Port Dalhousie with the building of the Welland Ship Canal, established businesses survived and flourished. The Murphy business was one as they had contracts with a number of ships to supply and this kept them quite busy.
After Wilf's father became ill, Wilfred ran the business until 1950 when he sold it to Bill Latcham.
